The Minister of Health of Montenegro, Vojislav Šimun, the representative of the Independent Health Trade Union, Mira Šolović, and the President of the Health Workers' Union of Montenegro, Nebojša Radonjić, signed today in Podgorica the Sectoral Collective Agreement (GKU) for the health sector, which will come into effect on January 1, 2026.
This was announced by the government department headed by Šimun.
"Today, one of the most important documents for the entire healthcare system was signed, the essence of which is to improve the financial status of healthcare workers. With the sectoral collective agreement, we have increased the salary coefficient for nursing staff by 15 percent, for nurses/technicians with higher and higher education by 10 percent, with a 5 percent bonus for managerial staff," said Šimun, according to a statement from the Ministry of Health (MZD).
He added that this GKU covers almost 6 thousand healthcare workers employed in public healthcare.
"The signing of the contract represents continuity in the work of the Government and the Ministry of Health aimed at improving the financial status of healthcare workers," said Šimun, adding that the Europe Now 2 program, as well as the agreement on incentives for medical staff, had been adequately implemented before that.
As stated in the statement, Šimun emphasized the pivotal role of Prime Minister Milojko Spajić in this process and recalled that previously, as Minister of Finance, he had influenced a significant increase in the salaries of all citizens of Montenegro, including healthcare workers, through the Europe Now 1 program.
Šimun reportedly thanked the Minister of Finance, Novica Vuković, and the Minister of Labor, Naida Nišić, for their excellent cooperation and for the contribution they made in this process.
"The Minister also highlighted the constructiveness of the social partners during the quality negotiation process for adopting the GKU," the Ministry of Health said in a statement.
Radonjić stated that this is the largest percentage increase in salaries for nurses and technicians to date.
"Representatives of both representative unions thanked Minister Šimun for his support for healthcare workers so far," the statement concluded.
