The Directorate for Protection and Rescue of the Ministry of Internal Affairs advised citizens and institutions to adapt their activities to current weather conditions and to avoid being outdoors during the most intense rainfall and gusts of wind.
This was announced today by the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP).
"Based on information from the Institute of Hydrometeorology and Seismology of Montenegro (ZHMS), heavy rainfall is expected in the coming period. There will be heavy rains in all areas every day, accompanied by strong winds, so short-term weather conditions are possible in some places. The most precipitation is expected for today. Cumulatively, at least 100-150 will fall in most places, and in some places over 250l/m2. A stronger cooling is expected at the end of the day on Wednesday," the statement said.
They added that municipal operational teams are on standby.
The Ministry of the Interior also said that there is currently no water release from artificial lakes in the territory of the Nikšić municipality, and the increase in the water level of the Zeta River is not correlated with the operation of the hydroelectric power plant.
"OKC 112 is in communication with the competent authorities in the Republic of Albania regarding information on the level of water release from dams on the Drim River, in order to monitor the situation with water levels on the Bojana and Skadar Lake," it states.
The government department stressed that such a situation could significantly complicate the performance of daily activities and cause certain consequences on the ground.
"Therefore, citizens and institutions are advised to: Adapt activities to current weather conditions and avoid staying outdoors during the most intense rainfall and wind gusts; Follow official announcements and recommendations of competent services through the media and official communication channels; Pay special attention to the condition of watercourses, atmospheric drainage and the stability of buildings, especially in areas prone to floods and landslides, as well as strong waves; Ensure free access for fire and rescue services in the event of an intervention," the Ministry of Interior said in a statement.
The Directorate, as stated, forwarded the aforementioned warning to all entities in the protection and rescue system, with a recommendation to increase operational readiness and increase monitoring of the situation in the field.
