The bridge in the village of Komarnica, which was damaged yesterday after a flash flood caused by heavy rainfall, was repaired by municipal services from Šavnik in the evening and allowed vehicles to pass through.
However, locals gathered today indignantly, pointing out that the same problem repeats itself year after year, as the Komarnica River damages or washes away bridges with every heavy rain.
They recall that the situation was particularly difficult in October 2024, when three bridges were demolished.
They demand a permanent and stable solution from the state and municipality, warning that otherwise they will resort to road blockades.
The President of the Municipality of Šavnik, Jugoslav Jakić, spoke out, as he said, regarding a new, serious situation in Komarnica, where road communication has been disrupted, which has left locals cut off again, and among those who found themselves in the area are tourists who came to our area believing that it was safe and passable.
He said that this is not the first time they have faced such a problem.
"And that is precisely why the concern, indignation and numerous questions of citizens are understandable. As the President of the Municipality of Šavnik, I want to be completely clear - the problem of Komarnica can no longer be solved with temporary measures and ad-hoc interventions. This is not just a matter of the road - this is a matter of people's safety, the normal functioning of life and the basic dignity of those who live here," said Jakić.
He added that the relevant municipal services are on the ground, that the situation is being monitored continuously, and that the next steps have already been defined.
"I ask citizens for patience and peace, people's safety is an absolute priority and no decision will be made irresponsibly or hastily. At the same time, the Municipality of Šavnik has prepared project documentation for a permanent and systemic solution to the problem of Komarnica. As the mayor of the municipality, I will again officially address the Government of Montenegro and the competent institutions, with a clear request that this issue be resolved jointly and responsibly. Komarnica must be at the top of the list of state infrastructure priorities, so that situations like this never happen again."
Jakić also said that citizens are right to ask why warnings from previous years were not taken seriously in a timely manner.
"These issues are justified and should not be avoided. Komarnica must receive a permanent, planned and systemic solution. I am not running away from responsibility and I am not turning my head away from the problem. I will stand by the residents of Komarnica until the situation normalizes and I will continue to insist - both publicly and institutionally - that this issue be resolved in the interest of the people, security and the future of Šavnik," said Jakić.
