The Battle of Mojkovac represents one of the most powerful symbols of heroism, sacrifice and military honor in Montenegrin history, said Minister of Defense Dragan Krapović.
He laid a wreath at the Monument to the Heroes of the Battle of Mojkovac in that city today. In doing so, he paid tribute, as the Ministry of Defense announced, to "the heroism and sacrifice of the participants in the Battle of Mojkovac, whose feat and determination are permanently inscribed in the historical memory of Montenegro."
"The Battle of Mojkovac represents one of the most powerful symbols of heroism, sacrifice and military honor in Montenegrin history. The memory of the heroes of Mojkovac obliges us to preserve the freedom, peace and dignity of the state, but also to pass on to future generations the values on which Montenegro was built," said Minister Krapović.
The Battle of Mojkovac was fought on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day 1916 and is one of the most famous episodes in Montenegrin military history, the statement added.
"In extremely difficult winter conditions, the Montenegrin army, under the command of serdar Janko Vukotić, managed to stop the penetration of the Austro-Hungarian forces, which enabled the withdrawal of the allied units of the Serbian army," the defense ministry reminds.
