All available services on the ground are due to the worsening situation caused by heavy rainfall, it was announced at a press conference of the Ministry of Internal Affairs regarding floods across Montenegro.
Director General of the Directorate for Protection and Rescue, Miodrag Bešović, emphasized that the situation in the endangered areas, as well as the flow of water from neighboring countries, is being continuously monitored.
"All the capacities we have at our disposal have been deployed, and we are in constant contact with our colleagues from Albania due to the amount of water being released due to intense rainfall," said Bešović, according to Mediabiro.
According to him, Danilovgrad is still the area with the highest risk.
"Traffic has been suspended on several sections, several buildings in the Sekulići settlement were flooded, and 12 people were evacuated during the night. When it comes to the Perućica HPP, there is no water release or overflow that would further burden the Zeta River," said Bešović.
He added that numerous interventions are underway in the Podgorica area.
"In Luznica, several people are being evacuated, while teams are also working in Beri, Tološi and Vranići, but the situation is under control. In Kolašin, minor damage to the local road infrastructure was recorded, without the need for major interventions, while in Cetinje the water receded and there was no need for services to take action," said Bešović, adding that several houses in Nikšić were threatened and that work was underway to restore traffic on the Komarnica bridge.
The Head of the Directorate for Civil Protection and Disaster Risk Reduction, Ljuban Tmušić, pointed out an additional problem in the protection system.
"We still have municipalities that do not have a protection and rescue plan, which poses a serious challenge in emergency circumstances," said Tmušić, calling on local governments to urgently begin developing that document.
