The assistance of the Police Directorate was requested by the head of the assistance and municipal police officers at the scene on December 30 in Botun, the Capital City Municipal Police Service announced.
Since the assistance of the UP was requested by telephone from the scene due to urgency, they explained, the Chief of the Municipal Police, Radenko Radenović, was obliged to submit a written request to the assistance provider, as the head of the authority and the responsible person.
They point out that Radenović was not at the scene during the operation, nor did he call the police and ask for assistance.
"On December 26, 2025, the city company Vodovod i kanalizacija doo submitted a request for assistance, related to the introduction of contractors into work on the construction of a wastewater treatment system. The request in question requested the release of space - a plot in the Botun settlement. In accordance with the above-mentioned request, the Municipal Police issued a Decision on the provision of assistance on the same day, at the same time appointing the assistance manager and municipal police officers to act," the statement reads.
"As the media is manipulating the written request for assistance, signed by the Chief of the Municipal Police, Radenko Radenović, we would like to point out that he was not on site during the operation, did not call the police or request assistance. After the legally required conditions were met, the head of the assistance and the municipal police officers requested police assistance from the scene. Since police assistance was requested by telephone from the scene due to urgency, the Chief of the Municipal Police was obliged to submit a written request to the assistance provider, as the head of the authority and the responsible person," said the Podgorica Municipal Police Service.
The Police Directorate said yesterday that their officers intervened in Botun on December 30 at the request of the municipal police of the capital. They submitted a request for police assistance, signed by Radenović.
The Democratic People's Party, reacting to these allegations, announced today that the intervention of the UP in Botun was requested by the deputy chief of the communal police, Darko Papić, through a verbal call, because the mayor of Podgorica, Saša Mujović, took away Radenović's command of the communal police action when he ordered the withdrawal of his officers.
In the 2024 local elections in Podgorica, Radenović was on the councilor list of the coalition "For the Future of Podgorica - for the City of All of Us".
