At the end of last year, the non-governmental organization WISTA Montenegro, a national association of women in maritime, trade and logistics, was registered in Tivat.
WISTA Montenegro, as announced by its founders, has the ambition to soon officially join the global family of WISTA International – the largest and most influential global network of women in the maritime industry. Joining the WISTA network brings multiple benefits, not only for women in the maritime industry, but also for Montenegro as a maritime state. The WISTA network has consultative status with the International Maritime Organization (IMO), which means that it participates in creating policies and important decisions in the global maritime industry.
WISTA (Women's International Shipping and Trade Association) was founded in 1974 in London and today brings together more than 6.000 female professionals from over 60 countries around the world. The organization advocates for greater gender equality, visibility and inclusion in the maritime, trade and logistics sectors, as well as for the professional development of women through networking, mentoring and education.
"WISTA is an international association of women in maritime, trade and logistics, which has existed for more than 50 years and brings together professionals from all over the world. The idea of establishing a Montenegrin organization was further strengthened after last year, for the first time in Montenegro, at the institutional level, we marked the World Day of Women in Maritime Affairs, May 18, through the project 'She and the Sea'," said one of the founders and presidents of WISTA Montenegro, a master's degree holder in international maritime law and an employee of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs of Montenegro, Maša Štampić.
In addition to her, the founders of WISTA Montenegro are maritime law lawyer Aleksandra Bujković, founder of the Montenegro Charter company Sanja Božović, professor at the Faculty of Maritime Studies in Kotor Dr. Senka Ivošević Šekularac, and Svetlana Harkivić, founder of a yacht crew recruitment company from Herceg Novi.
