The sleeping cars on the Belgrade-Bar train that were not heated are owned by the Railway Transport of Montenegro (ŽPCG), according to a statement from the company "Srbijavoz".
The company sent a press release denying the claims of ŽPCG.
"Upon the arrival of train number 432 at the Zemun railway station, on January 8, 2026, a regular inspection of the composition was carried out. On that occasion, due to a malfunction, Bc car number 50 62 50-27 301-4, owned by ŽPCG, was excluded from traffic. At the same time, sleeping cars number 50 62 72-10 508-7 and 50 62 72-10 506-1, also owned by ŽPCG, were assessed as technically correct and included in the composition of train number 433 on the same day. Immediately before the departure of train number 433 from Zemun station, an additional inspection of the train was carried out, during which no irregularities were observed, nor was any problem related to the heating system reported by the sleeping car attendant - an employee of ŽPCG," reads the statement from "Srbijavoza".
They add that these sleeping cars have their own diesel heating system, the inclusion and use of which is the obligation and responsibility of the car attendants, who are employed by ŽPCG.
"Also, during the train's stay at Zemun station, as well as during the journey itself, the sleeping car attendants did not report any irregularities related to heating. In accordance with the applicable procedures, if there is a problem with heating, the car attendant is obliged to offer passengers who complain a transfer to a car in which the heating is correct, which was not done in this specific case. In addition, any possible problem with heating was not reported either to the competent inspection service or to the Bijelo Polje border station, although this is also the car attendant's obligation in the event of an irregularity," it was announced.
They also state that based on all the above facts, it can be concluded that in this specific case there is no liability of the employees of 'Srbijavoz', nor any negligence in their actions.
"Attempts to shift responsibility to 'Srbijavoz' do not contribute to solving the problem and are not in the interest of improving the quality of service and protecting passenger rights. 'Srbijavoz' remains committed to cooperating with all partners in order to improve travel conditions and timely resolve all issues of importance to passengers," the statement reads.
A train passenger complained to "Vijesti" that their journey in the sleeping car on the Belgrade-Bar route on the night of January 8th and 9th was not pleasant because, despite the low temperatures, there was no heating on the train.
