The local community (MZ) Mrkojevići has fulfilled all the conditions previously requested by Montefarm in order to open the first pharmacy in Pečurice, and they expect the state-owned company to fulfill its promise, according to a statement signed by the president of the MZ, Senad Arabelović. He said that they last contacted Montefarm in writing on November 10, 2025, with the aim of defining further steps, but that they have not received a response so far.
"From the Mrkojevići local community, we look with joy at every infrastructure project that is carried out in Bar and Montenegro for the benefit of the wider population. This is also the case with the opening of the Montefarmo pharmacy in the Sutomore local community a few days ago, which, in addition to two private ones, is now the third pharmacy on the territory of this local community. We would like to extend our sincere congratulations to our fellow citizens from Sutomore, the Ministry of Health and the director of Montefarmo, Mr. Aleksandar Bogavac.
However, the Mrkojevićs, on the other hand, share the regret that this local community with: 4000 permanent residents, a population that reaches 15.000 in the season, on the main regional road connecting the Montenegrin coast with Albania, still does not have a pharmacy worthy of a 21st century citizen. As a reminder, this institution received an elected doctor all five working days a week in April last year after the residents of Mrkojević had been waiting for the past 15 years," the statement reads.
The Mrkojevići Local Community said that on their initiative, and with the support of the Ministry of Health, a meeting was held on August 15, 2024, regarding the issue of opening a pharmacy in Pečurice, which was attended by the director of Montefarma Aleksandar Bogavac, the director of the pharmacy Jelena Popović, representatives of the Bar Health Center, as well as representatives of the Local Community Council, Senad Arabelović, Omer Vukić and Ahmed Bošković.
"It was jointly concluded that the residents of Mrkojevići have an undeniable need for a pharmacy and that there is a good will expressed by Montefarm to meet this idea, of course, while meeting all the necessary conditions foreseen for the operation of such a facility. It was also concluded that the space for opening a pharmacy within the Pečurice outpatient clinic requires significant funds to bring it to its intended purpose, so Montefarm will prepare a project solution in accordance with the Regulations and the situation on the ground," the statement said.
The Mrkojevići Community claims that they have in the meantime fulfilled not only the required conditions, but even more.
"In fact, in the meantime, an elected doctor was established throughout the week and has come to life at full capacity with over 700 registered patients, new inventory for the clinic has been provided, the restroom has been reconstructed, and future donors have been secured for the reconstruction of the facade, access ramp, external locksmithing, furnishing of the interior space and the possible purchase of certain medical devices. The property and legal status of the building and plot has been regulated, and it has been registered with the state of Montenegro with the rights of use of the Bar Health Center," the statement added.
It is stated that on July 9, 2025, as all the conditions required by Montefarm had been met, a meeting was held at which the director of the state-owned company was not present, and that the request to wait until the annual vacations had passed was then accepted.
"We again contacted Montefarm in writing on November 10, 2025, with the aim of defining further steps, primarily by developing a project solution, bearing in mind that we have secured donors who have recognized the importance of this project. Unfortunately, to this day we have not received a response from Montefarm and its director. We are waiting for Montefarm to fulfill its promise and show goodwill, the rest is our concern," said the Mrkojevići Community.
They say they receive inquiries every day about when the pharmacy will open, and they express their belief that Mrkojevići, with a population the size of a small town in Montenegro, will not be second-class citizens this time either, but will get the first pharmacy in the history of this region.
"Finally, we would like to express special gratitude to the Ministry of Health, the Bar Health Center, donors and locals for their selfless support when it comes to the operation of the clinic and the opening of the pharmacy," the statement concludes.
