The Municipality of Tivat will donate four newly purchased housing containers to the Tivat Red Cross, three of which will be immediately placed in the informal Roma-Egyptian settlement "7. jul" to help two families living there in substandard and fire-damaged temporary structures.

A fire broke out in "7. jul" at the end of March last year, destroying or damaging part of the old and dilapidated former workers' barracks, where some Roma-Egyptian families, whose members work primarily in the Tivat Municipal Enterprise, have been living for decades.

On March 24th of last year, the residents of that settlement turned to the Municipality with a request for assistance to the families who had suffered major material damage to the buildings they were using for accommodation in a fire two days earlier. The Municipality formed a special commission consisting of representatives of the Tivat Protection and Rescue Service, the Red Cross and the Center for Social Work, which visited the “7. jul” settlement on November 10th of last year and inspected the situation on the ground.

The commission proposed that three housing containers, through the Red Cross, be allocated for use by families. Besima Balajaja i Muhamed Dzemaili because they suffered the most damage in the fire and have not had adequate accommodation since then, "taking into account the very poor hygienic and housing conditions, especially due to the fact that minor children are staying in the facilities."

In the meantime, the municipality has conducted a public procurement procedure for four housing containers with their assembly at the installation site, for which the offer of the company "Runner Trans" from Nikšić was selected as the most favorable, with a total value of 27.346 euros including VAT.

For the upcoming session of the local parliament, scheduled for January 23, a draft Decision has been prepared on the donation of these containers to the Tivat Red Cross Municipal Organization, “for the purpose of providing temporary accommodation to persons and families in social need”. Three containers will be immediately allocated to the Baljal and Džemaili families in the “7. jul” settlement, while the fourth container will be kept by the Red Cross Municipal Organization so that, as the draft Decision states, “it can be available in similar situations of social need, crisis circumstances or emergencies and used for as long as the need lasts, in accordance with the assessment of the Tivat Red Cross Municipal Organization”.

The containers were given to two families from the "7. Jul" settlement for use as long as the need lasts, that is, until they solve their housing issue in another way.

The municipality asked the company “Mesopromet” from Bijelo Polje, which owns the cadastral plots on which the improvised Roma-Egyptian settlement is located, for permission to place the containers in the informal settlement “7. jul”. “Mesopromet” immediately gave the local administration “unconditional consent” and expressed satisfaction that in this way it could contribute to solving some of the problems of the settlement’s residents.

The municipality and the Bijelo Polje company have meanwhile signed a special agreement on the transfer of real estate for an indefinite period, which allows the local administration to use cadastral plots 4743 and 4744 KO Tivat, free of charge, to install housing containers for some of the residents of the "7. jul" settlement who were left homeless in last year's fire in that settlement.
