Research by the Spektrum Analitika agency, presented two days ago by Miloš Bešić, a professor at the Faculty of Political Sciences in Belgrade, once again confirms the correctness of the institutional reforms advocated by the Ministry of Public Administration, said the relevant Minister Maraš Dukaj.
"From the results of the research, we see that citizens are demanding more direct democracy, greater accountability of government officials, and local self-government in which they decide. That is precisely why we at the MPA have drafted the Concept of the Law on Local Elections and proposed the direct election of municipal presidents and their deputies. The model in which the candidate for the first person and his deputy must be of different sexes represents a concrete step towards real, not just formal, gender equality," Dukaj wrote on Iks.
He said that these are modern, sustainable and responsible solutions that establish and strengthen democratic processes and restore citizens' trust in local self-government.
"It is now up to decision-makers to support and implement through law a modern, accountable and inclusive local government based on the free will of citizens," he said.
