The Bosniak Council in Montenegro has adopted an initiative that will be sent to Radio and Television of Montenegro, demanding "fulfillment of legal obligations" and the formation of an editorial team for radio and television programming in the Bosnian language.
As announced, at the second regular session of the Bosniak Council, "key guidelines of importance for the work of the Council in the coming period" were discussed and adopted.
Members of the Bosniak Council unanimously adopted the budget and work plan of that body for this year, as well as the work report and final accounts for 2025.
"The importance and significance of the Bosniak Council as a representative body and institution that systematically articulates social and identity needs were highlighted, and full support was expressed for its activities in the past period and the outlined plans. The need to create conditions for greater state budget allocations for projects and the necessity of fulfilling the legal obligations of local self-governments in order to support the Bosniak Council were pointed out," the statement reads.
The members of the Executive Board of the Bosniak Council in Montenegro were also appointed at the session: Dr. Sait Šabotić, Dr. Mehmed Meša Dečević, MA Sajma Feratović, MA Dženisa Mujević, Kemal Music, Dženana Kuč, Kemal Purišić, Rifat Agović, Alija Kujović and Almir Avdić. The Executive Board will be headed by Mirsad Rastoder, who was previously elected president of that body.
They say that the appointment of the Executive Board has created conditions for "more efficient implementation of planned activities and further continuity of work" of the Bosniak Council.
"Special emphasis at the session was placed on preserving historical memory as the foundation of collective identity. In this context, the Council adopted the Initiative for the Memorialization of the Genocide in Šahovići, declaring November 10th the Day of Remembrance for the Victims of this horrific crime from 1924. In parallel with the preservation of historical heritage, the Bosniak Council has also initiated steps towards the full realization of rights guaranteed by the Constitution and law in the sphere of public information. An initiative was adopted, which will be sent to the Public Service of Montenegro, demanding the fulfillment of the legal obligation to form an Editorial Board for radio and television programs in the Bosnian language," the statement reads.
They also said that a special focus in the Council's work will be inclusion in "all initiatives aimed at the systemic protection and preservation of Bosniak heritage."
"The Council will be an active actor in the processes of preserving and protecting linguistic, literary, architectural, folklore, musical heritage and overall spiritual heritage. The Bosniak Council in Montenegro continues its dedicated work to preserve identity, improve the rights and position of the Bosniak people, and strengthen institutional activities in accordance with the law and adopted strategic documents," they said.
