With a ceremonial ribbon cutting ceremony, the Minister of Education, Science and Innovation in the Government of Montenegro, Anđela Jakšić Stojanović, and the Mayor of the Municipality of Tivat, Željko Komnenović, opened the newly built elementary school (OS) "Branko Brinić" yesterday in Radovići near Tivat.

They were assisted in cutting the ribbon by State Secretary at the Ministry of Education Marko Jokići and the director of the "Branko Brinić" Elementary School Ivica Tošev, and the ceremony was also attended by Member of the Parliament of Montenegro Tonći Janović, President of the Tivat City Council Miljan Marković, Vice President of the Municipality Jovan Brinić and several members of the Tivat Parliament.

The new and modernly equipped school building in Krtoli with a gross construction area of 3.131 square meters was built in cooperation between the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation, the Ministry of Public Works and the Municipality of Tivat. The new building contains all the necessary spatial and technical conditions for the operation of a nine-year primary school currently attended by around 180 students, as well as special units for the work of the Krtoli department of the Tivat Music School, i.e. premises for the work of the kindergarten and the branch department of the JPU "Bambi" nursery school from Tivat. In addition, the building has a landscaped yard with a green area for primary school students and a separate landscaped yard with a playground for kindergarten-age children, and a large open multi-purpose sports field. The company "LD gradnja" from Nikšić was the supervisor of the construction of the school.

The construction of a new school in Krtole, which cost a total of just over five million euros, including equipment, began in September 2023 and was completed in December last year, so students from the Krtole area yesterday began the second semester of the 2025/2026 school year in a completely new and modern facility.

"I am very pleased that today we have the opportunity to open a new school building in Radovići worth over five million euros, which will house the premises of the Primary and Music Schools, or kindergartens. I must commend the truly exceptional cooperation we have with the President of the Municipality of Tivat, Željko Komnenović, with whom we have previously implemented many projects in Tivat related to preschool and primary education, and I am sure that in the coming period, through the new memorandum of cooperation that we will sign, we will successfully implement many other projects." - said the Minister of Education, Dr. Anđela Jakšić Stojanović, adding that the new school in Krtoli is part of a large-scale project to improve the educational infrastructure in Montenegro at all levels, which was initiated by the Ministry of Public Works and in which a total of over 100 million euros has been invested so far in the reconstruction of existing and construction of new educational facilities.

She highlighted the new facility of the Elementary School "Branko Brinić", for which the Municipality of Tivat prepared the project documentation and helped organize classes at alternative locations while the new building financed by the state was being built, as "a beautiful example and message of how cooperation between institutions at the local and state levels actually brings the best results and projects are successfully implemented in fairly short terms."

The Mayor of Tivat, Željko Komnenović, reminded that Krtoli is celebrating a great jubilee this year - 260 years since the beginning of the first school in the vernacular anywhere in the territory that is today the administrative borders of Montenegro, and that it is therefore more than appropriate that this area receives a new modern elementary school building.

"We can freely say that this is one of the best school facilities of its kind not only in the Boka Kotorska region, but also in the whole of Montenegro. On this truly great project, a major one for the Municipality of Tivat, we have successfully cooperated with the Ministries of Education and Science, i.e. Public Works. Krtoli, in the year of the great jubilee for education in the vernacular language, which began here back in 1776, deserves to receive an appropriate new, modern school facility built according to the latest standards, because until now, for the last few decades, Krtoli has only had a dilapidated prefabricated school building that was leaking." - said Komnenović, adding that the Municipality and the Ministry of Education have a new task ahead of them - the construction of a new facility for the branch department of the Elementary School "Drago Milović" in Donja Lastva, and the reconstruction and expansion of the branch department of that school in Gradiošnica.

"In addition, I hope that Tivat, which currently holds the title of the city with the most students attending one school building in all of Montenegro - the central facility of the "Drago Milović" Elementary School, will soon receive a completely new second large elementary school that we intend to build in Župa," he emphasized, thanking the cooperation of the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Public Works, but also the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Montenegro, Zdenka Popović, "who, as an MP, initiated the adoption of an amendment three years ago to include the project for the construction of a new school in Krtoli in the Government's capital budget."

The new school in Radovili, as it was heard, among other things, has the most modern heating and cooling system using heat pumps, and as Komnenović said, it also has "perhaps the best and most modern gymnasium in this part of Montenegro."
