Last year, 77 days were registered in Pljevlja with exceedances of daily mean values of suspended particles PM10, 70 in Bijelo Polje, 55 in Podgorica, and 40 days in Nikšić, the Ecological Movement Ozon announced.
Ozone said that the daily average values of suspended particles PM10 were compared with the prescribed limit value (50 μg/m3), for the daily average value, which must not be exceeded more than 35 times during the year.
"In Pljevlja, in December, at the Gagović estate location, the average daily value of sulfur dioxide (SO2) was exceeded ten times and the hourly value of SO2 was exceeded 47 times, which greatly affected the poor air quality," the statement says.
As stated by Ozone, a particularly worrying circumstance was the presence of high and very high concentrations of this pollutant in longer time intervals, as well as exceeding the warning threshold for SO₂, i.e. measured SO2 concentrations above 500 µg/m³, and 13 hourly values.
"When it comes to a comparative analysis of the exceedance of daily mean values of suspended particles PM10 with the year 2024, there are positive trends of decrease in Pljevlja and Bijelo Polje, while in Podgorica and Nikšić the results are identical," said Ozone.
Ozone said that data on the average annual values of PM10 and PM2,5 suspended particles and a more detailed analysis of air quality will be available in the Environmental Information for the past year, which will be prepared by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
They stated that it is very important to inform the public about the issue of air pollution through official data sources, primarily monthly reports available on the EPA website https://epa.org.me/mjesecni-izvjestaji-o-kvalitetu-vazduha/ in order to prevent manipulation of citizens.
EPA, Ozone and the Institute of Public Health, with the support of the Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Northern Development, have developed the Vazduh.me application through which pollutant concentration data can be monitored at the level of hourly average concentrations with recommendations for health protection.
Ozone urged citizens to follow advice and stay informed about air quality, especially during the heating season when the problem of air pollution is pronounced.
