Residents of the Podorje village of Ubli blocked the road from the Shelter for Abandoned Animals to the Tisova Greda sanitary landfill with trucks from the Čistoća company from Herceg Novi, due to the municipality's lack of care for the communal infrastructure in this local community.

Traffic is blocked only by Čistoća trucks, all other citizens can pass, and as announced, the blockade will last for several days, or until the demands of the locals are met, reports the RTHN portal.

Due to the long-standing problem of poor maintenance of the local road, as well as the complete lack of investment in infrastructure, the residents of Ubale sent requests to the Municipality of Herceg Novi, which were read by Gojko Vuković.

"We will not stop the road blockade until the Municipality of Herceg Novi resolves the following three requests: until activities begin on the rehabilitation of the Kameni - Ubli road, until public lighting in the village is re-established and turned on, and thirdly, until a new contract on the use of the landfill is drawn up, which will clearly define the rights, obligations and protection of the interests of the residents of the village of Ubli," he stated.

The Kameno - Ubli road, as he said, represents the only traffic connection between the village and the municipality of Herceg Novi.

"The condition of the road has been alarming, unsafe and inadequate for everyday use for years. Despite numerous written requests, oral addresses and pleas from locals, the Municipality of Herceg Novi has not taken a single concrete measure to solve this problem," said Vuković.

The president of the Ubli Local Community, Veselin Pavlović, points out that in the previous period, despite requests and agreements with representatives of the local government, nothing was done, which is why they were forced to block the road.

"All the requests we made, to asphalt the road, to repair the most vulnerable points, nothing has been done. We have a lot of records for the lighting. We asked for the lighting to be done, renovated. It has been started, but nothing has been completed. The village of Ubli is completely in the dark. They came from CEDIS, turned off the lighting, because it was not finished, even though we have been asking for it non-stop," he said.

Pavlović recalls that on August 8, 2024, a meeting was held with representatives of the local government, at which all the problems of Ubljana were presented.

"We have been asking for the asphalting of the road for years. A few years ago, it was said that machines from Vrbanja would come, when they finished asphalting there, then in the spring, then in the summer, then in the fall, and then in the winter, it couldn't be asphalted. They always found some reason why they couldn't. We asked to drill a water well, but we don't have enough funds. We asked to be allowed to drill at the Duboki do location, where water was found. The Faculty of Geology found water deposits in two places. At the bottom of the village and in Duboki do. We asked for that too, but we were refused because they told us that they were not authorized to issue that paper so that we could drill a water well," said Pavlović.

Although they were not previously informed about the blockade, but only found out about it this morning, the Čistoća company understands and respects the right of citizens to point out problems and demand solutions to infrastructure issues.

However, as they state in the letter, it is necessary to take into account the wider consequences of such moves. Due to the blockade, they are currently unable to transport around 60 tons of waste per day to a temporary landfill, which may lead to its accumulation in the recycling yard.

This situation directly threatens the regular maintenance of municipal hygiene in the city, and consequently can pose a serious threat to the health of citizens, concluded Čistoća.
