The process of establishing the Apostolic Nunciature in Podgorica is a strong indicator of the quality and stability of relations between Montenegro and the Holy See, as well as a shared commitment to their further development, it was announced at a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister Filip Ivanović and the Apostolic Nuncio to Montenegro, Francis of Assisi Čulikat.
According to the Deputy Prime Minister's office, Čulikat presented Ivanović with the Draft Interstate Agreement between Montenegro and the Holy See on the opening of the Apostolic Nunciature in Podgorica.
"The interlocutors assessed that the process of establishing the Apostolic Nunciature in Podgorica is a strong indicator of the quality and stability of relations between Montenegro and the Holy See, as well as of the mutual commitment to their further development," the statement said.
Čulikat also pointed to the broader international framework, stating that, in addition to Montenegro, the opening of new nunciatures is planned in several other countries.
The conversation also included an exchange of opinions on current international developments, with particular emphasis on the role of the Holy See in contemporary global circumstances.
Ivanovic's office said that the interlocutors reflected on the Pope's activities and his contribution to international dialogue, promoting peace, solidarity and mutual understanding in the face of increased global challenges, emphasizing the importance of the Holy See's moral authority in international relations.
Special attention, it is added, is dedicated to the European integration of Montenegro.
It is stated that Čulikat was interested in Montenegro's progress on the path to membership in the European Union, while Ivanovic presented current and planned activities within the negotiation process.
He stressed, as added, that Montenegro remains committed to implementing reforms and an approach based on individual results, with the belief that such an approach represents a key framework for further progress in the European integration process.
Ivanovic's office said that today's visit by Čulikat represents a continuation of months of talks and coordination between the two sides regarding the Draft Interstate Agreement on the Opening of the Apostolic Nunciature in Podgorica.
"This confirms the mutual willingness to continue the dialogue on this issue in a spirit of cooperation and mutual respect," the statement said.
