The Mayor of Podgorica, Saša Mujović, and the Head of the Islamic Community in Montenegro, Rifat Fejzić, yesterday, based on the decision of the Capital City Assembly of October 19, 2022, signed a contract on the transfer of ownership rights, by which the Capital City, as the holder of the right of disposal, transfers the ownership of construction land with a total area of 30.000 square meters to the Mešihat of the Islamic Community in Montenegro, free of charge.
The land is located in the cadastral municipality of Podgorica III and is included in the valid Spatial and Urban Plan of the Capital City, and is intended for the construction of a religious building and accompanying facilities in accordance with the planning documentation, the local government announced.
"The signing of this agreement confirms the commitment of the Capital City to, in accordance with legal regulations, contribute to the realization of the rights of religious communities, the improvement of interfaith harmony and the strengthening of the culture of tolerance and coexistence in Podgorica," the statement reads.
Fejzić, as they state, thanked the Capital City for its understanding and support, emphasizing that the implementation of this project will play a significant role for the believers of the Islamic Community, but also for the wider social community, through "the development of the space and the affirmation of the values of mutual respect and dialogue."
"The capital city of Podgorica remains committed to the principles of equality, respect for religious freedom and creating conditions for the balanced development of all communities that make up the city's multiethnic and multiconfessional identity," the statement reads.
