The President of the Municipality of Nikšić, Marko Kovačević, and the President of the Municipal Assembly, Milica Lalatović Žižić, on the occasion of the Montenegrin Journalists' Day, organized a working breakfast with media representatives from the town near Trebjes, the Nikšić Municipal Assembly announced.
Kovačević, as reported, congratulated the Montenegrin Journalists' Day and said that the Municipality of Nikšić continues the tradition of gathering journalists on this date, in order to thank them for their contribution to informing citizens, emphasizing that the Nikšić media scene is professional and focused on the public interest.
"We wanted, as in previous years, to gather representatives of all Nikšić media outlets on the occasion of Journalists' Day and to thank them for their work in the previous year. Journalists in Nikšić work professionally, and the reporting, regardless of the media outlet, is objective and, above all, for the benefit of our fellow citizens. The criticism we receive through the media helps us to be better and to create better public policies in the coming period. Journalists' Day is celebrated in memory of January 23, 1871, when the first issue of the newspaper 'Crnogorac' was published in Cetinje, printed in the Serbian language and Cyrillic script, which represents an important part of our historical and cultural heritage, as well as an obligation to respect that fact in the modern socio-political context. We have a special responsibility towards our local public broadcaster Radio-Television Nikšić, where significant results have been achieved since the arrival of Nikola Marković, including the construction of a new, modernly equipped television building, as well as towards Radio-Television Montenegro, where, through the studio in Nikšić, we have contributed "higher quality and more objective reporting from the territory of our municipality," said the mayor.
Lalatović Žižić pointed out that "the meeting with journalists, which is already becoming traditional, is not only an opportunity to congratulate them on the holiday, but also to promise, as a responsible local government, that we will continue to work very transparently and that we will, to the extent possible, make efforts so that all media outlets reporting on and from Nikšić have the best possible working conditions."
She emphasized that the media has a great role and importance in building a safe, free and prosperous society.
"Thank you for following our work, for being here to praise us, criticize us, warn us... In this way, you help us solve the problems of our fellow citizens even more efficiently and quickly. I am convinced that in the time ahead, institutions will be even more efficient, the media free and financially sustainable, and pressures on journalistic standards minimized," concluded Lalatović Žižić.
On behalf of the journalists, the attendees were welcomed by the Director of RTNK Nikola Marković, who emphasized that the cooperation between the Municipality and the media is excellent, and that Nikšić can be proud of its journalists, the press release from the Municipal Council states. He thanked the Municipality, as the founder and financier, for its continued support. He also announced the opening of the Film Studio by 2030, which will represent a new, significant value for Nikšić as the European Capital of Culture 2030. The working breakfast was also attended by the Chief of Staff of the Mayor of the Municipality, Marko Perućica.
