The capital city plans to renovate the Gorica Forest Park in Podgorica in a comprehensive and long-term manner, which is why instead of just the plateau, it will announce an international competition for the renovation of the entire space.
This follows from the response recently submitted to "Vijesti" by the Office of the Chief City Architect, headed by Duška Macic.
According to them, they came to this decision "after reviewing the activities and potential of Gorica Hill to date."
"The capital city has assessed that the development of this area requires a broader, integrated and long-term sustainable approach, which goes beyond solutions focused on individual locations. In this context, it was decided to start preparing an international competition for the development of the entire area of the Gorica Park Forest, thus considering it holistically, in accordance with the significance and complexity of this area," they said.
They emphasized that they are currently preparing activities to announce an international competition, adding that they will conduct it in accordance with applicable rules and standards.
"All relevant details, including the competition conditions, the composition of the jury and the prize fund, will be publicly announced at the time of the official announcement of the competition. The Capital City and the Office of the Chief City Architect remain committed to the responsible planning, improvement and preservation of the Gorica Forest Park as one of the most important natural spaces of Podgorica," the Office of the Chief City Architect said.
"Vijesti" previously wrote that the Capital City announced a public competition last May for the restoration of the plateau, and interested candidates could submit their works until the beginning of July. The Service told the editorial staff at the time that two works had arrived at their address, which "by unanimous decision of the jury did not satisfy the quality."
"Previously, the Office of the Chief City Architect announced a national competition for the best conceptual design for the development and revitalization of the peak plateau in the Gorica Forest Park. As part of the competition task, participants were required to provide certain sports, cultural and accompanying facilities that are in line with the fact that it is a protected area, and to use natural materials and integrate it into the natural environment and existing infrastructure of the Gorica hill," they announced earlier.
The goal, they stated at the time, is to restore "a significant natural resource that has previously suffered damage due to fire."
According to them, the total prize fund of the previous competition was 25.000 euros.
The competition previously specified that in previous years Gorica had been hit by serious fires on several occasions, and that despite several clean-up operations, the consequences of the "great devastation of this area" were still visible.
