Milena Milatović, wife of President Jakov Milatović, visited the Institute of Oncology of the Clinical Center of Montenegro today and said that no one should be alone in the fight against cancer.
As announced by the President's Office, Milatović visited the Institute on the occasion of February 4th - International Cancer Day, emphasizing that it is a place where fear and hope meet daily.
"From this very place, I want to send a strong message of support to everyone who is being treated, to everyone who learned of the difficult diagnosis today, but also to their families and friends. These are people who fight together with their loved ones every day," said Milatović.
She assessed that today, more than ever, it is important to talk about prevention and early detection of disease.
"For this reason, I urge all our citizens to go for preventive checkups, because they can save their lives and make the lives of their families more beautiful," said Milatović.
She also pointed out the need to talk about the fear and stigma that accompany this serious illness, to share verified information, and to communicate openly about the disease.
"It is important that our citizens know that they are not alone. The entire team of the Institute of Oncology, as well as all healthcare workers, stand by them. This is a fight for all of us and we are on the same side in this fight," concluded Milatović.
The Director of the Institute of Oncology, Gordana Ristić Bašović, emphasized that the visit of the First Lady of Montenegro is a great honor for employees and patients.
"We owe her immense gratitude for taking the time and providing strong support to both our patients and the Institute's employees, who work in very specific conditions, because oncology itself carries special challenges," said Ristić Bašović.
She pointed out that the visit has additional significance because it is held on World Cancer Day.
"Let this be a common reminder and conclusion that we all need to take care of our health, because it is first and foremost a responsibility to ourselves, and then to all those we love. Therefore, today's checkup - tomorrow's health," concluded Ristić Bašović.
