Continuous dialogue, institutional cooperation and exchange of knowledge are of key importance, especially in the part related to law enforcement, education and raising public awareness., is the conclusion of the meeting between SNP MP Slađana Kaluđerović, architect of public policies and ITU for the protection of children on the Internet Žana Mihaljević and Andreja Mihailović, president of Women4Cyber Montenegro, with British Ambassador Don McCann on the Proposal for the Law on the Protection of Minors in the Digital Environment.
Kaluđerović is the initiator of the law and the MP who submitted the Bill to the parliamentary procedure.
During the meeting, the content, objectives and regulatory approach of the Bill were presented, which represents the first comprehensive and systemic normative framework in Montenegro dedicated exclusively to the protection of minors in the digital environment. Special emphasis was placed on the preventive and risk-based protection model, the liability of digital platform service providers, as well as measures related to algorithmic systems and the use of artificial intelligence, according to a statement from the SNP-CIVIS Parliamentary Group.
The discussion, it is added, highlighted the importance of harmonizing national legislation with modern international standards and good practice. In this context, the experience of the United Kingdom in the field of child safety on the Internet, including the "Online Safety Act", was particularly highlighted as an example of a strong and effective regulatory framework that places child protection at the center of digital policies.
The SNP-CIVIS Parliamentary Group announced that the meeting confirmed a shared commitment to strengthening the protection of minors and ensuring a safe, responsible and transparent digital environment.
The participants of the meeting expressed their gratitude for the continued support of the United Kingdom and the British Embassy for initiatives in the field of cybersecurity and digital policies in Montenegro, and stressed the importance of further improving cooperation in the field of child protection in the digital environment, the statement concluded.
