On the night between Tuesday and Wednesday, unknown vandals again pushed a waste collection container of the Tivat Municipal Company down a cliff into the sea from a plateau next to the local road Tivat - Prčanj - Kotor near the Church of Our Lady of the Angels in Verige.
Yesterday, Tivat municipal workers, with the help of members of the Municipal Protection and Rescue Service and their machinery, removed the container from the sea and returned it to its original location.
This is the latest in a series of similar incidents that have occurred in several locations in Tivat in the past few days, where there have been cases of municipal containers being thrown into the sea, as well as their deliberate overturning in the places where they were placed. The containers were thrown into the sea at Verige, in Lepetani and at Ponta Seljanova.
As announced by the Tivat Municipal Enterprise, these are acts of vandalism that, in addition to material damage, pose a serious problem for environmental protection and the normal functioning of municipal services. Due to these incidents, the Municipal Enterprise has been forced to additionally engage its workers, as well as vessels, to pull containers from the sea and collect loose waste. Such interventions require additional time and financial resources, which would otherwise be directed to regular maintenance of cleanliness.
"These are not isolated cases. Incidents are recurring, and all citizens bear the consequences. The marine ecosystem is being endangered," the Public Utilities Department emphasizes, calling on citizens to report such vandalism by unscrupulous individuals and groups, and to behave responsibly towards public property and space.
The Municipal and Municipality of Tivat say that additional monitoring measures and sanctions for those responsible are being considered, in order to prevent the recurrence of such cases in the future.
