The Municipality of Kolašin has initiated a decision-making process on the need to prepare an Environmental Impact Assessment Study for the exploitation of technical and construction stone at the "Bakovići" deposit, which, according to information on the official website of the Municipality, is a project of the private company "Keker" from Kolašin.
According to the documentation submitted for the purposes of this procedure, the intention of the Kolašin entrepreneur is to exploit technical and construction stone in the town of Bakovići, near the main road Kolašin - Mojkovac, and the deposit is about three kilometers as the crow flies, northwest of Kolašin.
According to the documentation, the quarry contains about 1.078.000 cubic meters of stone, which has been confirmed by official studies, and it is planned to extract about 20.000 cubic meters annually. Given the available reserves and the planned extraction rate, it is estimated that the quarry will operate for about 47 years.
As explained, the terrain where the quarry is located is hilly and very steep, which makes the work difficult. Therefore, special roads with steep slopes and working platforms at different heights will have to be built to facilitate access. The investor also has a ten-year work plan.
As stated in the documentation, there is no surface or groundwater present at the location, while the Tara River flows south of the "Bakovići" site at a distance of about 400 meters.
The site itself is not inhabited, and the first houses are located about 120 meters in the village southwest of the site.
"There are no rural settlements or other facilities at the "Bakovići" site, except for the existing road that runs along the southwestern edge of the site in question and continues to the aforementioned village of Bakovići. There are no infrastructure facilities at the site itself, nor are their construction planned, nor are there any protected areas within the meaning of the Nature Protection Act. However, as it is an industrial zone, there are production hall facilities and a concrete production plant near the site of the technical and construction stone deposit. The facilities closest to the deposit location are owned by the project holder," the documentation states.
Five years ago, the Urban Planning and Construction Inspector of the Directorate for Inspection and Licensing of the Ministry of Ecology, Spatial Planning and Urbanism issued a decision ordering the company "Keker" to remove the concrete production facility with the accompanying plant in the Bakovići settlement. However, following citizen gatherings and numerous appeals from the people of Kolašin and entrepreneurs, the removal was abandoned.
