The example of Vesna Mačić, the first Montenegrin scientist to visit Antarctica, is a message to girls and women in Montenegro to bravely embark on scientific challenges and believe in their potential, said Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović.
On the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, he spoke via video call with Mačić, a scientist at the Institute of Marine Biology in Kotor, who is in Antarctica for the second time, where she is participating in research work at the Bulgarian scientific base "St. Kliment Ohridski".
The engagement of Mačić is part of Milatović's initiative, which was implemented during his official visit to Bulgaria.
"Vesna Mačić's story is a powerful example of how knowledge, dedication and perseverance can push boundaries, and a message to all girls and women in Montenegro to bravely embark on scientific challenges and believe in their potential," Milatović emphasized.
He added that on the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, the conversation with Mačić is a reminder that the state is obliged to provide systematic and continuous support to science and to those who contribute to the development of society and the international reputation of Montenegro with their work.
"Montenegro can and must be a country where knowledge and science are valued more than party membership cards and where all women and girls feel that their work is recognized, valuable and a source of pride for the entire country," said Milatović.
