The construction or reconstruction of the Neurology Department, worth around 220.000 euros, will soon begin at the Bijelo Polje Hospital. Until now, the department was a section within the Internal Medicine Department, with a small number of beds and modest intensive care.

Along with newly opened departments such as Pediatrics, planned reconstruction projects worth 15 million euros have begun. By the end of July, the Oncology Day Hospital - a palliative care department will be opened, and an Ophthalmology operating room with equipment for cataract removal is also planned, which directly raises the quality of health services for northern Montenegro.

Until the arrival of the director, Dr. Kenan Erović The existing ward was inadequate, especially for those patients who were spending their last days of life in that ward without dignity. The greatest symbol of that time was the common room in which men and women lay together without adequate partitions, violating the privacy and dignity of patients, as “Vijesti” wrote about.

This picture changed with the arrival of new management, which in a short time managed to reach higher standards in healthcare.

As Director Erović told "Vijesti", the new neurology department represents a key step forward for healthcare in northern Montenegro.

"The previous department is growing into a modernly equipped department that will cover an area of about 700 square meters. The funds were provided by the Ministry of Health and the Health Insurance Fund. The new Department of Neurology will have modern medical space consisting of intensive neurological care, a special unit intended for the most seriously ill patients, equipped with its own professional staff and the latest equipment for constant monitoring, a polyclinic section and advanced diagnostics. In addition, specialized rooms for EEG (electroencephalography) and EMNG (electromyoneurography) will be established, which will enable quick and precise diagnostics of neurological diseases without going to other centers," said Erović.

One of the novelties is the space for physical medicine.

"Patients who require rehabilitation during hospital treatment will have dedicated rooms for physical treatment available directly in the ward. As for space - patient rooms and accompanying facilities, a larger number of beds in modern rooms is planned, with additional facilities such as dining rooms and utility rooms, which will significantly increase the level of comfort for patients," said Erović.

He states that the works will be completed according to plan by the end of this year. Providing key details about the staff and organization, he emphasized that the new unit will have independent staff.

"The new neurological intensive care unit will have its own, specially trained medical staff who will be responsible exclusively for the most seriously ill patients in the department."

When it comes to the specialist team, Erović emphasizes that the goal is to raise the current department to the level of a full-fledged department in terms of personnel and organization in order to adequately respond to the needs of the elderly population.
