The Agency for Personal Data Protection and Free Access to Information (AZLP) has accepted the appeal of the Human Rights Action (HRA) and determined that the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) violated the law because, since September 8, 2025, it has not decided on the request for access to information on the composition of the Commission for the Verification of Security Disturbances and the number of police officers suspended in the period 2022-2025, HRA announced today.
The HRA said that the AZLP determined that the Ministry of Interior was illegally hiding information about the Security Clearance Commission and the suspensions of police officers.
The statement from the non-governmental organization (NGO) states that the AZLP ordered the Ministry of Interior to issue a decision within 15 days.
"HRA requested all decisions on the formation and changes to this commission, as well as data on the number of suspended officers. This is basic information about the work of a body that directly affects the working status of police officers - it decides who can remain in service and who will be removed due to alleged security violations. Such data must be public, because without transparency there is no accountability," the statement said.
HRA added that hiding this information is particularly problematic at a time when the Draft Law on Internal Affairs further expands the powers to hire and fire police officers on the basis of security concerns, in a non-transparent procedure, without disciplinary proceedings and without the right to a defense, often based on unverified information.
"This opens up space for political personnel filtration, abuse and politicization of the police, contrary to the right to a fair trial and basic standards of the rule of law. In such an atmosphere, the denial of even basic data on the work of the commission and the number of suspended officers further undermines public trust and prevents democratic control of the security sector. HRA expects the Ministry of Interior to act on the Agency's decision without further delay and make this information available to the public," HRA said.
