The Mimosa Festival, attended by thousands of visitors, was officially opened on Friday in Herceg Novi.
Herceg Novi will be the center of entertainment and culture in the region for the next 15 days, it was announced at the opening of the 57th Mimosa Festival.
The official start of Novi's biggest festival was marked by a festival procession, the handing over of the city keys to carnival participants and the Novi Waltz, and then thousands of Novi residents and guests danced to the hits of Goran Karan and Nina Badrić.
As announced by the Municipality of Herceg Novi, the carnival capo raised the Mimosa Festival flag on the Tor, a tower that is a symbol of the city, while trombone players marked the departure of the Mimosa procession from Nikola Đurković Square.
The Herceg Novi City Music with majorettes and little majorettes, the Đenović Local Music, trombone players and members of the carnival group Mascara paraded through the city center, across the Square and along the promenade to Igalo, where the opening ceremony was held.
The President of the Municipality of Herceg Novi, Stevan Katić, emphasized that the Mimosa Festival is the brand of Herceg Novi and Montenegro, as one of the most important events during this period of the year.
"In February, we celebrate the most beautiful flower, a flower that symbolizes friendship, brotherhood and the beginning of spring. Thank you all for coming to Herceg Novi, for loving Novi as much as we all do. You are always welcome in our city, which welcomes you with open arms. In the next 15 days, you have more than 60 programs that we have prepared," said Katić.
Traditionally the most attended event, the Mimosa Harvest - a festival of mimosa, fish and wine on the Riviera, will be held today.
The Mimosa Festival will last until February 28th, and the program includes more than 60 entertainment, cultural, gastronomic, children's and sports events. The complete program can be viewed HERE.
