We are evenly developing the healthcare system throughout Montenegro, raising the level of quality of healthcare services while implementing decentralization, said Minister of Health Vojislav Šimun today.

As announced by the relevant ministry, Šimun met today with the newly appointed representative of the European Investment Bank (EIB) for Montenegro, Davor Kunc, with whom he discussed the implementation of a loan agreement for the purchase of medical equipment intended for health institutions in Montenegro, as well as other potential projects related to the health system.

"During the meeting, it was noted that internal procedures within the EIB have been successfully completed, and that the signing of the contract and the start of the implementation of the project worth 27 million euros are expected soon. It was particularly emphasized that the EIB, within the framework of the grant that will be updated, will also provide expert technical support in implementing the procedure for the procurement of medical equipment, which will further improve the transparency, efficiency and quality of the project implementation," the Ministry of Health (MZD) said in a statement.

The government department states that Šimun emphasized on that occasion that he expects the loan in question to represent a strong incentive for long-term and meaningful cooperation with the EIB, and to further strengthen reform processes in the healthcare system, in the context of Montenegro's strategic commitment towards full membership in the European Union.

"There is practically no city in Montenegro that will not be affected by this project in the field of the health system. This is a process that is much more important than its financial component. We are evenly developing the health system throughout Montenegro, raising the level of quality of health services while implementing decentralization," said Šimun, adding that this project is an excellent impetus for the further development of health care, and that during this process the real needs of health institutions will be met.

EIB representative Kunc expressed optimism regarding the success of the future implementation of the aforementioned project, and announced that activities will be intensified in the coming period when it comes to creating conditions for the beginning of its implementation.

"I hope that this project will solve a lot of problems in your healthcare system. I expect that the quality of services and efficiency of work will improve in the coming period," said Kunc.

The Ministry of Health added that they are pleased to establish cooperation with the EIB, considering that this is the first project in the field of healthcare to be implemented in partnership with this renowned European financial institution.

"In the constructive dialogue, possibilities for further deepening cooperation were also discussed, especially in the segment of improving and modernizing healthcare infrastructure in the southern and northern regions of our country," the statement concluded.
