Podgorica Mayor Saša Mujović said that the city is not in crisis but is operating at full capacity and that the city administration is "serious, responsible and capable of solving decades-old problems, in the interest and to the satisfaction of citizens."
Today, Mujovič and his associates visited the final works on cleaning and breaking through the Mareza canal in Donja Gorica, near DG Arena.
As announced by the Capital City, this means that after several decades, the Mareza River is once again able to flow to the Morača.
"Will won, and knowledge won too. The solution of this canal, the start of works in Botun and the numerous projects we have implemented in just one year are reasons to be proud. This is a strong wind at our back to continue even more determinedly, in order to make Podgorica a better place to live," said Mujović during the tour.
He added that the directors of the city companies "Zelenilo", "Deponija" and "Vodovod i kanalizacija" together with their teams made a special contribution to the implementation of the project.
"Solving the Mareze canal problem was one of the key steps towards permanently improving water quality, which has been intensively discussed in the previous period. Although the situation will continue to be carefully monitored in order to determine all possible causes of turbidity, it is already clear that the passability of the main canal will significantly contribute to a more stable and high-quality water supply," said Mujović.
He reminded that numerous city companies and services participated in the implementation of the works: "Zelenilo", "Deponija", "Podovod i kanalizacija", "Čistoća", "Putevi", Service for Agricultural Support and others.
"By working together, with people and machinery, we have shown responsibility, efficiency and readiness to respond to every challenge, despite forecasts that the project may not be completed. The Mareze Canal was a key part of the wider system and is passable today, which represents a substantial step forward and the foundation for further activities. The next phase will involve concreting the sections that require it, as well as additional removal of waste from the canal, and the completion of these works is expected in the next fifteen days. The results are here, as confirmation that a clear vision, knowledge and determination bring concrete changes, and Podgorica continues to work strongly, responsibly and in the interests of its citizens," said Mujović.
