Some Mojkovci residents claim that the municipal company systematically poisoned stray dogs, as well as owner-owned dogs, and then took them to an unknown address. The municipal company claims that this is not true.

The mass poisoning of owner and stray dogs on the streets of Mojkovac occurred last week, according to several Mojkovac residents who contacted "Vijesti".

They accuse employees of the local utility company "Gradac" of doing this in an organized manner, and then, as they say, "taking the animal carcasses to an unknown address."

Among the poisoned dogs, the residents of Mojkovci told "Vijesti", were several of their owners who were found outside the yard.

"According to our information, the dogs were poisoned with mouse poison. At least 15 dogs were killed in this way, including some of the owners. It would be easier for me to know at least where my dog's body is. I asked them to tell me where they took him. The authorities, if they are interested, can easily determine who bought the poison. This is truly a crime and unacceptable behavior to solve the problem of stray dogs through mass poisoning. We did not see the animal corpses, but we have reliable unofficial information that a utility company did this and that it is not the first time," the owner of one of the poisoned dogs told "Vijesti".

The Mojkovac Municipal Services Company denies having anything to do with the poisoning of the dogs. Director of the Municipal Services Company "Gradac" Bojan Micunovic He told "Vijesti" that "they neither poisoned nor removed the animal carcasses."

"Our employees have not even seen those animal carcasses that fellow citizens are talking about. Imagine if there were 15 dead animals on the streets and no one saw it. The attitude of our employees towards stray dogs is best seen in the fact that we feed and care for six or seven animals that are around the company premises," says Mićunović.

When a journalist noted that there were only two or three dogs in the city center on Friday last week, he said that they were mostly around kindergartens and schools where "children probably feed them leftovers from their lunch." A large number of dogs, says the director of the "Gradac" company, are also in villages, where they continuously attack livestock, which is why the municipality often pays compensation to livestock farmers.

"Of course, we cannot guard dogs that wander around villages, nor, unfortunately, control how they are treated. When it comes to the urban area, I claim that the employees of the company I head are not responsible for the death of a single dog," says Mićunović.

According to him, the shelter in Berane no longer has room to accommodate dogs, and, as he explains, the Bijelo Polje shelter also told them that there was no room for dogs from other municipalities.

The Mojkovac Municipal Police told "Vijesti" that the problem of irresponsible ownership and a large number of stray dogs on the streets of that city has been present for a long time and is currently unsolvable, given the lack of shelters.

Representatives of Kolašin and Mojkovac have had the idea for the past two years to build a joint shelter for abandoned animals, but it has not yet been realized. There is a private shelter in Kolašin that has long been full.
