Customs buried old dump in Baošići despite ban

Businessman Čed Popović's company "Carine", which is building a large hotel in Baošići and filling the beach in front of it, has completely buried the old stone Baošići mandrać, which is a recognizable object of local cultural and architectural heritage.

For days now, Popović's company has been rapidly filling the sea in front of the construction site of its future hotel on the Herceg Novi Riviera in Baošići, despite the fact that the Directorate for the Protection of Cultural Heritage has prohibited it from continuing with this work and ordered it to return the coast to its original condition.

The permit for filling up as much as 12.500 square meters of sea in Baošići was issued by the Municipality of Herceg Novi, and the Nature Protection Agency of Montenegro also approved this incredible example of devastation of the coast and marine ecosystem, claiming that it allegedly does not require the preparation of an Environmental Impact Assessment Study.

Despite the explicit order of the Administration for the Protection of Cultural Heritage to stop the sea filling in Baošići and restore the coast to its original condition, not a single inspection has so far gone into the field and physically prevented the "Carina" company from continuing the devastation of the waters and the coast.

The completely buried old stone mandrać, whose outlines can only be seen in the mass of earth, mud and gravel with which it is covered, was visited today by the Navigation Safety Inspection of the Port Authority in Kotor.

The inspection officially concluded that the coastline here has been drastically changed and that it no longer even remotely corresponds to the condition depicted on all maritime charts.

At the same time, it was also noted that the coastal maritime light and terrestrial marker that marked the destroyed old mandrać and pier in Baošić have now completely lost their function.

Namely, the terrestrial marker with a coastal maritime light on its top, which until now stood on the head of the Baošić pier and was surrounded by the sea on three sides, is now located in the middle of a large new land area created by intensive filling of the sea by the "Carina" company over the past few days.
