Pljevlja: Mitrović filed a complaint for improper disposal of slaughterhouse waste in the village of Židovići

The executive director of the Ecological Society "Breznica", Milorad Mitrović, filed a report with the police in Pljevlja due to the improper disposal of slaughterhouse waste in the village of Židovići, near the wastewater treatment plant.

According to the report, animal skulls and heads, body parts, bones and skin, as well as the bodies of dead dogs were found at the location. Wool was also found in a radius of about 100 meters, and the entire area, as stated, was affected by a strong and unpleasant odor indicating a serious degree of contamination.

Mitrović stated in the report that the waste, apparently, was improperly disposed of by currently unknown persons, and that it poses a potential danger to human health, as well as domestic and wild animals, due to the possibility of a wider spread of infection.

He called for an urgent response from the relevant state authorities, safe and professional waste removal, as well as decontamination of the area after cleaning. He particularly emphasized that this type of hazardous waste cannot be removed by utility or construction companies, but only by specialized and licensed organizations authorized to dispose of hazardous waste and remediate land after biological and chemical contamination.

He stated that he had already informed the food safety inspector in Pljevlja, Miloš Šarac, the head of the municipal police service of the Municipality of Pljevlja, Tijana Vemić, and the environmental inspector Velibor Kljajević, of the existence of the problem, and that he expected them to act in accordance with their legal responsibilities.

Mitrović said that Pljevlja has not had a sanitary inspector for the third year in a row and that they do not even have a slaughterhouse, that livestock slaughter is carried out illegally in garages and sheds, and that veterinary inspection stamps are forged on meat that is sold raw, processed (sudžuk, sausages, švargla, etc.) or dried as prosciutto.

"Slaughter should be done in B field, because that's where the nearest registered slaughterhouse is, but that's not being done. In addition to that, we filed a report with the police. One of the slaughterhouse waste dumps has still not been removed and it is not known if and when it will be," said Mitrović.
