After a full decade: Removal of awnings along the walls of the Old Town in Budva has begun

The removal of metal awnings that were installed a decade ago along the walls of Budva's Old Town and cover restaurant terraces, without the approval of the Administration for the Protection of Cultural Heritage, and are not foreseen in the new Temporary Facilities Program for the period until 2028, began today.

This means that the administration of the Mayor of the Municipality, Nikola Jovanović, has succeeded in what previous municipal authorities, both those from the ranks of the DPS and those from the ranks of the former Democratic Front and the Democrats, have repeatedly promised, but failed to keep, that they would clear the contact zone of the Old Town of inappropriate metal awnings and restore order.

As confirmed to "Vijesti", the municipal inspection has handed over decisions to owners of premises that have awnings along the walls, to remove them, which some have already started today.

"The awnings around the Old Town are being removed based on the administrative procedures carried out and decisions made by the municipal inspectors, and they are final. The awnings in question are not included in the new Program of Temporary Facilities on the territory of the Budva Municipality, but rather parasols are provided for. The subjects of supervision have started to remove them themselves," said Vladan Braunović, Head of the Municipal Inspection, to "Vijesti".

For now, the metal awnings will only remain along the old town walls towards the Brijeg od Budva beach (Ričardova glava) because, as explained to "Vijesti", this is a coastal zone, for which the Municipality of Budva is not responsible, but the Public Company for Coastal Zone Management.

The caterers requested that the removal process be indiscriminate, and that if solutions were made for the awnings around the walls, the awnings on Richard's Head and those inside the Old Town should also be removed.
