The Higher State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica has formed a case and requested medical documentation from the Clinical Center of Montenegro (KCCG) regarding the patient's death. B. B. (84), who died in early March after surgery at the Clinic for Digestive Surgery, "Vijesti" learned unofficially.

According to the same information, the case was formed after the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica forwarded to that prosecutor's office the case they formed following a criminal complaint filed by the family of the deceased patient.

In a criminal complaint filed by a family member of a deceased patient for alleged negligent treatment, which "Vijesti" had access to, the Danilovgrad resident underwent surgery on February 24 at the Clinic for Digestive Surgery, after which, as stated, the postoperative recovery initially proceeded normally.

The report claims that over the weekend, while the operating surgeon was not present, the patient's health deteriorated, which, according to the family, the doctors on duty did not recognize or react in time.

It is reported that there was bloating and the appearance of intestinal fluid in the drain, which the family considers a serious postoperative complication.

The family also claims to have a video taken over the weekend, which they say shows dark fluid in the drainage bag and the patient complaining of pain and bloating.

The report also states that the patient was supposed to be prepared for a new surgical intervention on March 2, but during that day he underwent resuscitation, after which he died.

The applicant requested the prosecutor's office to initiate an investigation to determine whether any negligent treatment resulted in the patient's death.

The Podgorica Public Prosecutor's Office confirmed to the newspaper that the case had been forwarded to the Supreme Prosecutor's Office.

"Regarding your questions, we inform you that a case has been opened in the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica on this occasion, which has been transferred to the Higher State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica for jurisdiction and further action," the prosecutor's office stated.

At the end of last week, the KCCG said that until receiving the journalist's inquiry, they had not received the family's report, nor the prosecutor's request for the submission of medical documentation.

The institution subsequently announced that "through today's mail check, they received a request from the Higher State Prosecutor's Office regarding the delivery of the medical documentation in question" and that "they will act in accordance with legal obligations and deliver the requested documentation."

In their responses from the previous week, they stated that patient BB (born in 1942) died on March 2, a few days after undergoing surgery at the Clinic for Digestive Surgery.

"After the death, an autopsy was not requested by the treating physician, considering that he had established the cause of death and described it in the medical documentation," the health institution responded.

They added that the case has been referred to the Commission for Quality Control of Health Services.

"After receiving the Commission's opinion, it will be delivered to the family, as well as to the Ministry of Health," said the KCCG.
