President of the Municipality of Bar Dušan Raičević signed today with the executive director of the company "ING Invest" from Danilovgrad Ilija Radulović Contract for the preparation of design and technical documentation, main design, of the National Aquatic Center with accompanying equipment.
From today's meeting, which was organized on that occasion in Raičević's office, it was announced that the construction of a modern aquatic center will create a space that will be accessible to everyone - children, recreational athletes, professional athletes, but also guests, as well as a space that will contribute to the even greater recognition of Bar as a sports and tourist destination and a developed coastal city in the future.
Raičević pointed out that Bar is approaching the long-awaited project of building an Olympic swimming pool, which is the dream of many generations in that city and a project of importance not only for Bar, but for all of Montenegro.
He assessed that this was a historic moment for the city and thanked everyone who had previously participated in the activities that had been implemented so far. He noted that in 2024, the Municipality of Bar announced a national competition for the development of a conceptual architectural solution and, after completing the procedures, selected the best offer, so the tender procedure for the development of the main project was initiated, which went to "ING Invest".
"What makes us particularly happy is the fact that the designers have committed to completing this part of their work in six months. The total value of these works that has been contracted is 331 thousand euros including VAT. Appreciating what 'ING Invest' has done in Bar but also in all other cities in Montenegro, I am sure that they can meet our expectations, especially in this part regarding deadlines," said the Mayor of Bar.
Raičević added that the local administration, in cooperation with the Government of Montenegro, has committed to being in a position to announce a construction tender during this calendar year and thus make the dream of many generations in Bar come true.
He is certain that in September this year, in cooperation with the Government, they will begin implementing this important project. He assessed that it is ungrateful at this moment to talk about the actual value of the investment that will be needed for the Olympic swimming pool in Bar, but emphasized the fact that in previous years they have managed to secure the support of the Government of Montenegro through the capital budget, and they expect their support now as well.
"This will be the first in a series of significant projects in the field of infrastructure that should in the near future make Montenegro a candidate for the organization of many European competitions. I am sure that water polo, as one of the most trophy-winning sports in Montenegro, deserves much greater attention, not only from local governments but also from the state, and on the other hand, I am convinced that there is untapped potential in the sports city of Bar," said Raičević.
The Olympic swimming pool in Bar, he assessed, could be a starting point and gathering place for national teams and all others who will engage in swimming sports, and he expressed hope that there will be many young people in Bar who will be interested in it.
In the coming period, according to Raičević, in cooperation with the Water Polo and Swimming Association (VPS) of Montenegro, they will consider the possibility of forming a water polo and swimming club.
President of the Supreme Court of Montenegro Nikola Milić He said that water polo is the national sport of the country and that this sport has not received sufficient attention in terms of infrastructure, so the project that will be implemented in Bar will replace the past period and open a new chapter and conditions for proper work in water sports.
He offered "ING Invest" the cooperation of that Association during the design of the Olympic swimming pool, as well as to the Municipality of Bar in establishing a water polo club, and he left the option to do the same with neighboring municipalities that will be able to use the benefits of the swimming pool in Bar.
"Montenegro aspires to host the European Championship in January 2028, which will be very significant for us, because it is the year projected for entry into the European Union and the Olympic year. We want to believe that if we win the hosting right that year and meet the conditions, we will be competitive before the Olympic Games," said Milić, adding that he has no doubt that the swimming pool to be built in Bar will be a national center and will greatly contribute to top results in that Olympic cycle.
President of the Municipal Assembly of Bar Branislav Nenezić expressed his delight at today's signing of the contract and emphasized that it was also his personal wish, so it was an honor for him to be the president of the commission for selecting the best bidder for the main project.
"Today we can proudly say that the city of Bar has once again shown what it really is - a city of sports, a city that has a strong economic momentum behind it. What should make us happy is that Bar is creating the preconditions to promote itself as a tourist destination in yet another way," said Nenezić, adding that the future swimming pool should be the center of "this part of the Montenegrin coast" and that the wish of previous and future generations of Bar residents will come true.
The signing of the contract was also attended by the Secretary for Property and Investments in the Municipality of Bar, Stefan Schusher, Secretary for Sports and Youth Goran Simic, vice presidents of local government Damir Rašketić i Tanja Spicanovic, director of the Sports and Recreation Center Bar Bozidar Janković, chief city architect Slavko Lekic, member of the VPS Board of Directors Goran Đurović, representatives of the company "ING Invest" and associates of the President of the Municipality of Bar.
