The Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation (MESI) and the Podgorica-based company Deponija signed a Memorandum of Business and Technical Cooperation today, laying the foundation for a long-term partnership focused on educating young people about environmental protection, innovation and concrete recycling actions in the education system.

The Ministry of National Infrastructure and Transport announced that the Memorandum was signed by the relevant Minister, Anđela Jakšić Stojanović, and the Director of the Podgorica Landfill, Aleksandar Božović.

"This document lays the foundation for a long-term partnership focused on educating young people about environmental protection, innovation and concrete recycling actions in the Montenegrin education system," the statement said.

It is stated that the cooperation will be primarily focused on raising environmental awareness among children and young people through a series of practical and educational activities, which will be reflected in education in schools and kindergartens, organizing workshops on proper waste sorting and recycling in kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, as well as at universities throughout Montenegro.

"Cooperation also includes launching campaigns to collect old textbooks in educational institutions, as well as forming expert teams to work on innovative projects and participate in international conferences," the statement added.

The Ministry of National Reuse and Recycling said that for many years, the Landfill has been actively conducting educational activities aimed at children, through which the importance of recycling and a responsible attitude towards the environment is promoted.

"In this context, visits to landfills are also organized, during which students have the opportunity to learn firsthand about waste management processes and the importance of its proper processing," said the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology.

Jakšić Stojanović said that the Memorandum is not just a formal act, but an obligation to provide the youngest with concrete knowledge on how to protect the environment.

"Schools must be places where ecological culture is lived, not just taught," emphasized Jakšić Stojanović.

Božović pointed out that cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology enables them to put their capacities and expertise in the field of recycling into the function of the education system.

"We are proud to work together on projects that will benefit the entire community in the long term," said Božović.
