The Podgorica Commission for the Assessment of Damage from Natural Disasters has received 34 requests from citizens of Podgorica, whose buildings and property were damaged by floods at the beginning of the year, and the total estimated losses amount to almost 183.000 euros, the city's Commission for the Assessment of Damage responded to "Vijesti".
Floods at the beginning of the year caused problems for residents of several settlements in Podgorica and Danilovgrad after, during a long rainy period, the Zeta and Morača rivers overflowed their banks in some locations.
The Podgorica Commission told "Vijesti" that they conducted an individual assessment of each application.
"The estimated damage, based on the minutes of local commissions, is approved and the payment is made based on the decision by the Commission for the Assessment of Damage from Natural Disasters, established by the Government of Montenegro. Also, in order to provide additional support to citizens who have suffered damage, the Capital City may, based on individual requests, approve one-time financial assistance through the Secretariat for Social Welfare," the Commission said.
"Vijesti" previously wrote that in the capital, the most critical areas were the settlements of Beri, Tološi and Doljani, which were most at risk from flooding. There were also several interventions in the settlements of Komani and Lužnica.
Due to years of unauthorized construction and neglect, the situation was critical in the Mareza settlement, as the river could not flow through the canal. In addition to the capital, the situation was also critical in the Danilovgrad municipality in January. The municipality told "Vijesti" that 64 requests for damage assessments had been received by March 25th.
In January, dozens of houses and several catering facilities were flooded in the territory of Danilovgrad, and several residents of the villages of Klikovače, Bandići were evacuated... Ždrebaonik, Podanje, Pažići, Spuž were also under water, and the Danilovgrad - Glava Zeta road was also flooded.
The Danilovgrad municipality says that the requests for damage compensation have been processed.
"And send it for further action. The payment of compensation has not yet begun, and the procedures are in the administrative processing and further decision-making phase," they stated. They reminded that the local government will compensate for the damage in accordance with its capabilities, but that they "expect help from the Government of Montenegro."
"Whose representatives, during a recent visit to the municipality, promised assistance, once the damage was assessed," they stated.
