The donor's kidneys from Montenegro were transferred to Eurotransplant, because the only matching recipient from our national waiting list was not motivated for transplantation at this time, the Ministry of Health told "Vijesti".
An organ explantation was carried out yesterday at the Clinical Center of Montenegro (KCCG), conducted in cooperation with the international organization Eurotransplant.
They explained that expert teams from the Republic of Croatia, where the heart was allocated, as well as two transplant teams from Germany, where the liver and two kidneys were allocated, participated in this complex medical process.
The donor heart, as previously announced by the Croatian Heart Center for Cardiology, was allocated and transported to Croatia, where it was taken over by the competent transplant team, while the liver and both kidneys were allocated to transplant centers in Germany, where they were taken over by two highly specialized medical teams and prepared for transplantation to patients who needed them.
"This process once again confirms the importance of international cooperation and solidarity in the field of transplant medicine, as well as the importance of raising citizens' awareness of organ donation," the Ministry of Health said.
They expressed their sincere and deep gratitude to the family of the deceased donor, who, in moments of extremely difficult personal loss, showed exceptional humanity, empathy and responsibility towards the community by giving their consent for organ donation.
