The fifth edition of the Wind Festival, a specific Tivat month-long sports-cultural-educational-entertainment event dedicated to preserving and promoting the culture of life by the sea, begins in that city on Friday, April 24th and will last for five weekends, until May 24th.
The organizer of this event is the Sailing Club (JK) "Delfin" from Tivat in cooperation with the Municipality and Tourist Organization of Tivat, the Faculty of Maritime Affairs of the University of Montenegro from Kotor and the Institute of Marine Biology from Kotor.
In the company of representatives of key partners, members of the "Delfin" Yacht Club presented a rich month-long program today, which this year brings a total of 16 events in all towns of the Boka Kotorska Bay, at a press conference held in a suitable setting - on the pier in front of the Tivat Yacht Club building.
This year's edition starts this weekend with the "Small Tivat Regatta Gadbois Cup" for the Optimist and ILCA classes, which will be sailed on Friday and Saturday. On Saturday evening, on the city's Pine waterfront, the festival will be officially opened with a concert by Bajaga and instructors. The last Sunday in April, April 26, is reserved for the "Tivat Cruiser Regatta UNA Montenegro Cup", which will be sailed for the 21st time this year on one of the most attractive routes in the Bay of Kotor.
As you may have heard, the Wind Festival today represents a strong platform for cooperation that brings together 97 partners and sponsors, and this year, through programs in Tivat, two segments in Kotor, and the final event in Herceg Novi, it is expanding to all towns in the Bay of Kotor.
On behalf of the Faculty of Maritime Studies Kotor, University of Montenegro, Vice-Dean for Development and Communication, Assistant Professor Dr. Zorica Đurović, spoke about the importance of the scientific and professional segment of the festival:
"This year, we are particularly pleased to announce the Wind Festival and the conference 'Boka Kotorska as a Sustainable Nautical Destination', since this year we will also have the Kotor edition of the Festival. The conference itself is expanding into a two-day event - on May 7 in Tivat we will talk about the integration of policies, science and community in coastal management, while on May 8 in Dobrota the focus will be on the topic 'UNESCO and the Future of Cruising in the Bay'. The idea is to bring together experts who will offer concrete solutions and examples of good practice," she said.
Đurović also announced accompanying events in Kotor, including an exhibition on the history of the port of Kotor, as well as the exhibition "Sail & Fly - Boka Kotorska" by academic painter Ivana Bjelica. The educational program in Tivat will be complemented by a panel discussion "The Defense of Vrmac and the Last Days", which will be led by journalist and publicist Brano Mandić, with the participation of prominent researchers of this area.
PR manager of the Tivat Tourist Organization, Tamara Krstović, emphasized the importance of the festival for the development of the destination:
"The Tourist Organization of the City of Tivat has recognized the value of the Wind Festival since its first year. The festival is designed to contribute to the sustainable development of tourism through the segments of culture, sports, tradition, education and environmental preservation. In addition to overcoming seasonality, with its rich and attractive programs it exceeds all possible expectations and is therefore included in the budget of the Tourist Organization of Tivat. Through strategic cooperation, the festival has direct funding from the budget of the Tourist Organization of Tivat as an event of special importance for the city," emphasized Krstović.
On behalf of the Municipality of Tivat, PR Manager Branka Čelanović emphasized the values that the festival promotes.
"The Wind Festival has shown that sailing, environmental protection, education, tradition and a seaside lifestyle are not only compatible, but together they open up space for creative development. Its authenticity lies in its simple but powerful message - the beauty of Mediterranean living," said Čelanović.
In Tivat, in addition to the regatta part of the program, which includes the ILCA Veterans' Regatta, a day-long Maritime Arts and Crafts Fair "Morska posla" will be organized in cooperation with the Tivat Business Info Center and the Tourist Organization, as well as numerous cultural events - an international photography exhibition by the Adriatic Artists association "People from the Sea", concerts by the youth band Outskirts, the Wider Horizons group and Orthodox Celts, an evening of klapa songs brought by the Delfin Youth Choir in cooperation with the Boka Kotorska Association of A Capella Musicians.
Kotor brings a conference and exhibition segment, while Herceg Novi will host a three-day cycling event during the final festival weekend, including an attractive Urban Downhill race from the Španjola fortress to the city port of Škver.
