The President of the Municipality of Tivat, Željko Komnenović, hosted a reception for the Mayor of the City of Split, Tomislav Šuta, who is staying in Tivat and the Bay of Kotor at the invitation of the Croatian National Council of Montenegro.

Komnenović and Šuta, as announced by the Tivat Mayor's office, discussed improving cooperation between Tivat and Split and numerous topics of common interest, with special emphasis on communal, economic and tourism development, as well as the position of the Croatian national minority in Montenegro.

"The importance of respecting national minorities, preserving cultural identity and strengthening institutional support in accordance with European standards was emphasized, which, as stated at the meeting, highlights the example of the City of Split, where national minorities are an integral and important part of the overall life of the city. The European integration process of Montenegro was also discussed, as well as the possibilities of using EU funds at the local level, along with the exchange of experiences of the City of Split," the statement reads.

As part of the visit, a tour of the island and the sanctuary of Our Lady of Mercy was organized, where the Municipality of Tivat previously implemented a water supply project. Further restoration projects for this site under UNESCO protection are planned.

"In an open and cordial conversation, the interlocutors expressed their willingness to continue and improve cooperation between the two cities and two countries," concluded a statement from the office of the Mayor of Tivat.
