Environmental protection policy is a responsibility that transcends generations, said Minister of European Affairs Maida Gorčević, emphasizing that Montenegro is committed to meeting the requirements in Chapter 27, which is the most demanding in terms of finances, administration and infrastructure.
As announced by the Ministry of European Affairs, she spoke today with the Minister for Ecology, Climate Protection, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety of Germany, Carsten Schneider.
Gorčević thanked Germany for its continued expert, technical and political support for Montenegro's accession process to the European Union (EU).
She said that Montenegro, as an ecological country, is committed to meeting the requirements in Chapter 27, which is the most demanding negotiating chapter in terms of finances, administration and infrastructure.
"Environmental protection policy is a responsibility that transcends generations. Through dedicated and responsible action in this area, we create conditions for sustainable development, and more importantly, we leave clean air, safe water, and preserved landscapes for future generations," said Gorčević.
She emphasized that significant work has been done under this chapter, through the adoption of a large number of laws, strategies and by-laws covering all sub-areas of Chapter 27.
As she explained, by the end of June, Montenegro will fully transpose the EU acquis in the field of environmental protection, in accordance with the Roadmap for Chapter 27.
"The pace of progress in the last few years has convincingly surpassed previous periods combined, which proves our strong commitment to environmental protection reforms," Gorčević emphasized.
She said that after Montenegro joins the EU, funds from the Cohesion Funds will be available for infrastructure construction, and added that she expects European companies to participate more in that process.
Schneider, as announced, conveyed Germany's full support for Montenegro's European path.
"It is up to you to fulfill all the conditions, and the support of the German Government will not be lacking," said Schneider.
He pointed out the importance of environmental preservation and emphasized that the accession process and future EU membership offer numerous opportunities and investments in the environment.
Schneider pointed out that Montenegro has made significant progress in the field of environmental and climate protection and is on the right track when it comes to meeting the conditions for full membership in the EU.
"You have a wonderful nature and it is important to preserve it for new generations. The German government will continue to support you through numerous international support programs aimed at protecting and improving the climate and preserving biodiversity," said Schneider.
