World star Ricky Martin in Podgorica on May 21st

Musician Ricky Martin will perform at Podgorica's Independence Square as part of the celebration of two decades since the independence of the state of Montenegro - May 21st.

This was announced on the official Facebook page of the Government of Montenegro.

"The Coordination Body for the Organization of the Celebration of the Twentieth Anniversary of the Restoration of Independence of Montenegro is proud to announce the central event of the jubilee celebration program. On the occasion of this historic anniversary, Independence Square in Podgorica will be the stage for one of the most significant musical events in the modern history of the region on May 21st - a concert by the world music icon, Ricky Martin," the announcement reads.

The Government says that this "extraordinary artistic event" was conceived as a gift from the state to the citizens of Montenegro.

"The arrival of an artist whose name symbolizes top-notch production and a universal musical language confirms the state's intention to celebrate two decades since the restoration of independence in a magnificent way. Ricky Martin, winner of the prestigious MTV Latin Icon award and multiple Grammy laureate, brings to the heart of Podgorica the energy that has redefined the global music scene," the government announced.

They point out that the presence of this artist at the celebration of the twentieth anniversary of the restoration of Montenegro's independence gives an additional dimension to the ceremony, highlighting Montenegro as a meeting point for top art.

"We invite you to join us at Independence Square so that together, with music and celebration, we can send a message about Montenegro as a place of culture, prosperity and togetherness," the Government said.
