Pljevlja: The most for agriculture so far

Special attention is focused on the dairy sector, as only about 10 percent of the milk produced is delivered to dairies, while the rest is processed on farms, most often into the famous Pljevlja cheese.

The Municipality of Pljevlja is implementing one of the most ambitious agricultural programs to date in 2026. With the new agricultural budget, worth 1.055.000 euros, as emphasized by the local administration, they want to send a message that agriculture remains a strategic branch of development, and the focus is on increasing production, on-farm processing, supporting young people and improving the quality of life in rural areas.

At the same time, an additional 250.000 euros have been allocated for the entrepreneurship sector, bringing the municipality's total allocations for agriculture and entrepreneurship in 2026 to 1.305.000 euros.

President of the Municipality Dario Vranes states that the local parliament decided three years ago that the agricultural budget would amount to five percent of the total municipal budget.

"The Secretariat for Economy will allocate 1.055.000 euros to farmers through 22 agro-budgetary measures. We have corrected the long-standing bad practice of drastically varying support amounts from year to year. As Pljevlja is predominantly a mountainous region, the largest amounts are allocated to livestock and crop farming. The most funds were allocated for the following measures: support for milk processing on farms, 270.000 euros, improvement of livestock farming, 178.000 euros, and subsidies for milk, 145.000 euros. 94.000 euros are planned for improving the quality of life in rural areas, and 55.000 euros for crop production. Also, this year, subsidies for entrepreneurs, especially female entrepreneurship, have been increased from 55.000 to 250.000 euros. All these investments provide quick and positive returns," Vraneš told "Vijesti".

He reminds that the municipality has been continuously increasing investments in agriculture and entrepreneurship for three years, which strongly supports the real sector and local production.

Special attention is focused on the dairy sector, because only about 10 percent of the milk produced is delivered to dairies, while the rest is processed on farms, most often into the famous Pljevlja cheese.

That is why a premium of 0,07 euros per liter for delivered milk is being introduced,

EUR 55.000 has been allocated for crop production. It supports breeding, fattening, sheep farming, as well as the production of cereals, corn and grass-clover mixtures.

Significant funds are directed towards fruit growing, berries, greenhouses, organic production, irrigation, medicinal herbs and beekeeping. Special incentives are given to women heads of farms and young people under 40, through increased subsidies.

48.000 euros have been allocated for the improvement of beekeeping, through support for beginners, direct payments per hive, and the purchase of equipment.

In order to stop depopulation, young married couples in the countryside receive 1.000 euros, and an additional 1.200 euros for a newborn child, up to 8.000 euros in support for young farmers aged 18 to 35.
