The President of the European Council, Antonio Košta, sent a congratulatory message to the citizens of Montenegro on the occasion of Europe Day.
"I address you today as future members of the European Union. On Europe Day, we celebrate our common European project, when the founding countries chose unity over division, and cooperation over conflict. They decided to build a future of peace, freedom and prosperity on the ashes of World War II. We believe that your future lies in the European Union. A lot of hard work is being put into making this happen," said Košta.
He added that the EU supports Montenegro's goal of becoming the next member state of the European Union.
"We urge you to continue the positive momentum. I would also like to congratulate you on the upcoming Independence Day. Montenegro has come a long way in just twenty years. I look forward to the Summit with the Western Balkans in Tivat on June 5th. Together we will build a common European future. Long live Europe," said Košta.
