On the occasion of May 9th, Victory Day over Fascism and Europe Day, wreaths were laid today by the delegation of the SOBNOR of Montenegro, OBNOR 1941-1945, the Capital City of Podgorica, Danilovgrad, Zeta and Tuzi.

The President of SOBNOR of Montenegro, Radojica Radojević, pointed out that the commemoration of this date is organized in memory of the hundreds of thousands of civilians and soldiers who died in the battles for the liberation of Europe, Montenegro and Podgorica.

"This date reminds us of the magnificent victory of the anti-Hitler coalition over the greatest evil in the history of mankind - fascism. In their memory, here in this honorable and proud place, we laid flowers and paid tribute. May 9 is a symbol of the heroism and unity of the peoples who defended the world from fascism and a day when we remember with special reverence all those who gave their lives to defend humanity and elementary civilizational values," said Radojević.

He recalled that in the fight against fascism, the Montenegrin people made enormous sacrifices for freedom.

"The post-war census determined a total of 18.573 fallen fighters, victims of fascist terror and civilian victims from Montenegro. Today, we proudly and reverently remember the fighters of the Podgorica district, who, led by 52 national heroes from this city, were an example of courage and heroism on the battlefields. 1.500 fighters gave their lives on the altar of freedom, and the same number left their lives in concentration camps. Around 5.000 fighters participated in the NOP. Our people and our country were on that front of the brave, honorable and determined, and that is why we still proudly remember Montenegro's role in the anti-fascist coalition and our contribution to the great victory of humanity over Nazism," he said.
