Ostrog remains one of the most important spiritual centers and a symbol of faith that transcends time and borders, Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović announced today.
"On the feast of Saint Basil of Ostrog the Wonderworker, the Ostrog Monastery was once again a place of gathering, prayer and deep spiritual silence in which faith is reflected as strongly as hope. Thousands of believers from Montenegro and the region came to pay homage to the relics of Saint Basil, one of the most revered saints of Orthodoxy, whose name has been associated with healing, comfort and spiritual strength for centuries. The Ostrog Rocks were once again a witness to unity this year, confirming that Ostrog remains one of the most important spiritual centers and a symbol of faith that transcends time and borders," Milatović wrote on the social network Facebook.
Thousands of believers have been continuously arriving at the Ostroz shrine since yesterday, and many of them have walked hundreds and tens of kilometers to come and pay homage to Saint Basil the Wonderworker of Ostroz.
Today's liturgy was also attended by Milatović, Deputy Prime Minister for the Political System, Judiciary and Anti-Corruption Momo Koprivica, Russian Ambassador to Montenegro Aleksandar Lukašik, and Serbian Ambassador to Montenegro Nebojša Rodić.
The liturgy was served by Archbishop of Cetinje and Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral Joanikije, Archbishop of Iasi and Metropolitan of Moldavia from Romania Theophanes, and five other bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC).
