The Memorandum of Cooperation between the National Parks of Montenegro (NPCG) and the Geological Survey of Montenegro, which was signed today, envisages the improvement of the geoheritage protection system.
The NPCG announced that in the coming period, the identification, research, valorization and protection of geological and paleontological values in the area of national parks will be carried out in cooperation with the Institute for Geological Research, in accordance with applicable legislation and nature protection standards.
As announced, the Memorandum of Cooperation was signed by the Director of the National Center for Geological Survey of Montenegro, Marinela Đuretić, and the Director of the Institute for Geological Research, Emir Dacić.
"The improvement of the geoheritage protection system is envisaged, as well as the development of scientific, educational and professional activities in this area," the statement says.
Đuretić said that localities rich in geoheritage and fossil remains from the past have been identified in the territory of national parks, stating that as responsible managers, they wanted to identify, map and valorize these findings together with experts.
"We are expected to prepare expert opinions, studies and recommendations for the preservation of geological and paleontological values, as well as the establishment and implementation of measures for their protection," said Đuretić.
Dacić said that the Institute for Geological Research will provide expert and scientific support in the identification and evaluation of geological and paleontological findings and provide recommendations and guidelines for their adequate protection.
"The Institute will participate in field research and expert analyses, contribute to the education of employees of the Public Company for National Parks of Montenegro, and participate in the preparation and implementation of joint projects," said Dacić.
The statement states that monitoring of the condition of geological and paleontological sites will also be carried out, and the Memorandum also provides for the exchange of data, information and expert documentation, the organization of joint research and participation in national and international projects.
It is added that the education of employees in national parks in the field of geology and paleontology is also planned, as well as the promotion of geoheritage through educational and professional activities.
"The memorandum envisages cooperation based on the principles of expertise, mutual trust, transparency, exchange of information and coordination of activities," the statement said.
