The European Commission (EC) will continue to support Montenegro on its European path, especially in areas related to the rule of law, security and migration, said European Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration, Magnus Bruner.

As announced by the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP), Bruner spoke with Minister of Internal Affairs Danilo Šaranović, on the sidelines of the second International Migration Review Forum (IMRF).

"The meeting assessed that Montenegro is continuously achieving visible results in the areas of combating organized crime, strengthening border security and harmonization with European Union (EU) standards, which further confirms the country's credibility in the process of joining the Union," the Ministry of Interior said.

Bruner, as reported, praised the pace of reform and the results achieved by Montenegrin institutions in the field of internal security.

"The EU recognizes Montenegro's clear political will and determination to implement demanding reforms and fulfill obligations from the negotiation process," Bruner emphasized.

He emphasized that the EC will continue to provide full support to Montenegro on its European path, especially in areas related to the rule of law, security and migration.

Šaranović emphasized that the Ministry of Interior and the Police Administration remain strongly focused on meeting the final benchmarks from Chapter 24.

"Strengthening institutions, a decisive fight against organized crime and continuous improvement of the security system are the key foundations of Montenegro's European future," said Šaranović.

According to him, the results that Montenegro is achieving are confirmation of a serious and responsible reform process, based on the strong work of institutions, a clear European vision and intensive cooperation with EU partners.

Šaranović added that Montenegro is ready to become the next EU member.
