The Embassy of the State of Palestine in Montenegro is organizing a bicycle ride through the streets of Podgorica in order to promote the right to freedom of movement in Palestine, as well as the necessity of respecting basic human rights everywhere in the world, the embassy announced.

The ride is organized in memory of the 'Nakba' (nakba = catastrophe), when the war of 1948 led to a great exodus of Palestinians, which today has resulted in more than 5 million Palestinian refugees in the world.

"Palestine lost its freedom then and today is still under the military occupation of Israel. The citizens of Palestine cannot move freely in their state - the daily movement to school, shops, etc. is often interrupted by Israeli military checkpoints. With this ride, we want to provide an opportunity for Montenegrin citizens to show solidarity with the Palestinian people as well as support in the exercise of basic human rights, including free movement," the announcement states.

Participants of the ride will be able to pick up a scarf with a Palestinian theme at the start if they wish.
