The Tivat Security Department will soon be temporarily relocated from the substandard and dilapidated old barracks where the Tivat police have been operating since the 1979 earthquake to a new location - part of the former Arsenal facility for the production and repair of weapons and pyrotechnics in Opatovo.
At its last session, the Government of Montenegro gave its consent to the Ministry of Defense to transfer to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) a part of this complex with an area of 700 square meters for temporary use, together with two existing buildings with an area of 60 square meters.
In 2021, the Ministry of Defense temporarily ceded the entire former Arsenal facility in Opatovo, covering an area of 91.844 square meters, to the Municipality of Tivat to accommodate the Protection and Rescue Service (SZS), which is waiting for a new Fire Station to be built. Since the Fire Station will be located in the same new building, the other part of which will house the Security Department and the MUP Branch for Civil Status, Personal Documents and Foreigners, which will be built on the site of the current dilapidated Tivat police barracks, it was necessary to temporarily relocate the Tivat Military District. The Municipality of Tivat, to which the Ministry of Defense had previously ceded the former Arsenal facility in Opatovo to accommodate the SZS, agreed with such an initiative by the MUP leadership.
The Ministry of Interior then addressed the Ministry of Defense with a request for the temporary use of part of the cadastral plot 759/1 KO Donja Lastva, with an area of 700 square meters, with two associated buildings with a total area of 60 square meters, which represent part of the former military location Opatovo in Tivat.
"The request states that the Tivat Security Department, due to inadequate and high-risk spatial capacities, must be relocated to another location as soon as possible, and that the construction of a new facility is planned at the existing location to be used for the accommodation and operation of this department. It is also emphasized that, in order to overcome the existing problem in the accommodation and functioning of the Tivat Security Department, the company Porto Montrenegro from Tivat has provided the Ministry of Interior with 20 construction and sanitary containers, with associated equipment, with a total area of 316,80 m2, which the Ministry of Interior would place on part of the former military location of Opatovo," the document adopted by the Government states.
It is emphasized that the part of the former Opatovo facility that is being given for temporary use to the Ministry of Internal Affairs is located next to the fence of the complex towards the Tivat - Lepetane main road, that it has a special gate and that its use will not disrupt the functioning of the Tivat Public Health Service, which is located nearby.
After receiving formal approval from the Government, the Ministry of Interior will initiate a procedure with the Secretariat for Spatial Planning and Development, in order to designate new temporary facilities within the framework of the Temporary Facilities Program.
"This would create the conditions for the Ministry of Interior, in communication with the Municipality, to install construction sanitary containers, with associated equipment, and connect them to the water supply and sewage infrastructure," the document states.
